MYTHOLOGY

This exhibition invites ceramic artists to become modern myth-makers. Mythology is not merely ancient stories, but a foundational language for encoding values and connecting generations through narrative. It is expressed through culture, from oral traditions to art, permeating every level of society.

Ceramics, with its deep material history, is the perfect medium for this exploration. We challenge makers to move beyond literal representation and investigate how clay itself can be a vessel for myth. This can be achieved through two key approaches.

The first is Narrative Mythology, drawing from global folklore, religious parables, or subcultural legends to tell specific stories through form and decoration.

The second is The Mythology of Material, where the narrative is inherent in the ceramic process. The kiln’s alchemical transformation and the lore of glazes—are themselves powerful myths of creation and imperfection.

We seek works that are not just objects, but storytellers, connecting the past to the present and forging new legends for the future.

Coming From Mud presents 10 contemporary ceramic artists.

Coming from Mud is an artist-run platform dedicated to celebrating India’s rich traditions of art and craft while fostering contemporary expressions. Rooted in clay, this exhibition brings together the works of ten ceramic artists, each exploring the material with distinct voices and approaches. From traditional techniques to experimental practices, the showcase reflects the diversity, depth, and vitality of ceramics in India today.
